The tourism sector faces a labor shortage, according to the Minister
ZAGREB, August 21, 2021 – Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac told Poreč on Saturday that the sector faces a labor shortage, especially of workers with the right skills, as well as a declining interest of young people in tourism jobs.
She was visiting scholarship students whose scholarships are co-funded by the ministry as part of a program encouraging the training of hotel and tourism staff. Under the program, nearly 2,000 contracts have been signed to date and over HRK 14 million paid.
Brnjac said she wanted to hear the expectations and issues faced by the generations which she added were the future of Croatian tourism.
She said she wanted to hear their ideas to improve the scholarship program as well as the whole tourism education system.
Brnjac said the ministry would organize an event within the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe to discuss this topic in more detail and that “young people are our most important interlocutors”.
She said that in order to respond to some of the challenges of the tourism market, additional funds had been allocated under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to strengthen human resources for resilient and sustainable tourism.
