Terme Sveti Martin First hotel in Croatia awarded with the European Ecolabel
ZAGREB, July 19, 2021 – The Terme Sveti Martin hotel in Međimurje is the first hotel in Croatia to receive the EU eco-label after fulfilling the 22 relevant criteria regarding general management, energy efficiency, use renewable resources, rational water consumption, waste reduction, and good waste management.
Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac presented the EU eco-label to hotel manager Igor Nekić during a ceremony held on Monday at the hotel located in the town of Sveti Martin na Muri, the ministry announced on Monday.
The European Ecolabel is approved by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development for products and services that drive innovations and contribute to the EU’s climate neutrality goal by 2050 and the circular economy.
Congratulating the hotel for this important step towards a sustainable business and a sustainable destination, Minister Brnjac recalled that market studies around the world have shown that customers no longer seek mass tourism but prefer destinations sustainable and environmentally friendly that offer an authentic experience and an active vacation and services offering health tourism that includes spas and wellness treatments.
She said the government encourages and invests in the development of green and sustainable tourism through its national recovery and resilience plan and the multi-year financial framework.
The Terme Sveti Martin includes the hotel, apartments, a wellness center and other amenities. More than 200 people work in this establishment.
