Sevilla midfielder Rakitic denies retirement talk; sorry Carlos left for Aston Villa
Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic has said he’s not thinking about retirement.
Now 34, the Croatian veteran is already considering a new deal, with his current contract running until 2024.
He said Seville Diary“I hope they renew my contract for another five years. The important thing is to stay until I see what I can contribute and help the team.
“I’m thrilled and I can’t think of anything else or places or anything.
“I don’t see any retirement, because I love football and I want to play as much as possible. If it will be one, two, three or five years, we will see, as long as I see myself being competitive and able to help, I will be there.
Rakitic continued: “What works is performance, not DNI. The important thing is performance and it doesn’t matter if you are 18, 23 or 35… It doesn’t matter the name or the date of birth. These discussions are for others, the important thing is that we keep adding, and with that we stay.”
Rakitic also admitted he was sorry to see Diego Carlos sold to Aston Villa.
He added: “Diego was a very important player, he gave an incredible performance and he is a spectacular guy. I will miss him a lot but I completely understand him. I want to thank him for these three years and wish him to all the best in the future.
“And I congratulate the club on another great transfer, spectacular Monchi, the president and the vice-president.”
