Renovated ERKS Premantura Summer Vacation Camp for the Blind
June 9, 2021 – A Premantura accommodation facility that caters mainly to the blind and visually impaired, but also their friends and families, has undergone a renovation to step up its game for its customers. The installation of Premantura ERKS is now more accessible than ever.
As written by Poslovni Dnevnik / Ivan Tominac, located just twelve kilometers from the popular Istrian town of Pula in the municipality of Premantura, is the educational and rehabilitation camp for the blind – ERKS. Inclusion is an extremely important topic, and this renovated camp, owned by the Croatian Association of the Blind and managed by Tiflotehna, is making this idea a reality.
The project to increase the energy efficiency and accessibility of the Premantura ERKS facility for people with disabilities was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The total value of the project is 5.2 million kuna, with a grant of 3.4 million.
Today ERKS Premantura Camp has everything at their fingertips for a relaxing and worry-free vacation for the visually impaired, but also for their sighted family members and friends. Everyone is welcome and, as the President of the Croatian Association of the Blind Vojin Peric points out, this is an environment that gives blind and visually impaired people the opportunity to be independent while staying safe. .
âI’m really happy and proud that a job was done that took so much effort, the effort of the people who wrote and implemented the project, as well as the people responsible for building everything to make it work. It is a place that has different purposes such as a resort, hostel, camp, education and rehabilitation center and the possibility for people to enjoy socialization and leisure ‘ ‘, added Peric.
The Premantura ERKS project was implemented in 24 months in three different parts: construction and craft measures, electrical measures and mechanical measures. Much attention has been paid to the environmental sustainability of the facility, and inside the building, on the floor and walls, there are tactile surfaces, guide lines and tactile markings for the blind. and visually impaired people who allow better orientation and more independent movement. In addition, tactile orientation maps and evacuation plans are present in all rooms and hallways.
âThe implementation of these measures results in energy savings of 39.34% per year and a reduction in CO2 emissions of 6.03 t / year, which, in addition to an energy efficient company and full accessibility for the visually impaired, will result in a reduction in the operating costs of the facility, thereby extending the summer season and maintaining an affordable price for the blind and visually impaired of a lower financial status, ” said Premantura ERKS Hostel Energy Renovation Project Leader Petar Glavas.
Research and recreation
However, not everything was wasted solely on the interior and exterior, and a lot more thought has gone into other areas as well. This is how the resort offers the possibility of renting tandem bikes, all with the desire to allow blind people to enjoy additional leisure and to explore Premantura in a dynamic and active way with a sighted companion.
