Rangers interest in Championship star could hint at Ibrox departure

Rangers are reportedly interested in Stoke City left-back Josh Tymon – and that could have left a clue to Calvin Bassey’s future at Ibrox.

As revealed by the Daily Mail [26 May]Bassey has interested West Ham and Aston Villa, with Gers putting a £25m price tag on the 22-year-old.

Despite Bassey’s huge price tag, Rangers interested in £5million-rated Tymon could indicate they are preparing for Bassey’s departure [The Sun, 4 June].

As hard as it will be for the Ibrox faithful to hear, Bassey would generate a tidy sum for the club.

With his contract running until the summer of 2024, there is every chance the Scottish giants will be able to recoup almost all of their £25million asking price.

Their interest in Tymon potentially indicates that the Ibrox side are strengthening their defensive options on the left side to prepare for a major departure.

The Sun suggested that Tymon would replace Borna Barišić, should the Croatian leave the club.

However, shelling out the best part of £5m to replace a 29-year-old doesn’t quite add up.

Tymon looks like a more aligned caliber of player to replace Bassey at Ibrox.

Rangers will need to assess quickly whether Bassey is going to commit his long-term future to the club.

If he’s not ready for a long-term stay at Ibrox, Gers would be wise to cash in on the defender as soon as possible.

Either way, it’s good to see the Ibrox side making moves early in the transfer window for promising young talent.
