Pula Arena will host the Legends Team Cup – ATP Champions Tour
The magnificent Roman amphitheater in Pula will host tennis legends of the past when the Legends Team Cup is held for the first time in Croatia.
The new Legends Team Cup – ATP Champions Tour will kick off in Croatia at Pula Arena from August 1-3 when the former amphitheater will become a tennis court for the first time in its long history.
The format sees two teams of former stars compete over three tournaments.
Eight-time Grand Slam winner Ivan Lendl and Wimbledon champion Pat Cash of Australia will lead each five-man squad. Former stars Radek Stepanek, Tommy Haas and Tomas Berdych have already been confirmed to star.
“After the ice hockey and football match of the legends, another sporting spectacle awaits us in August at the Pula Arena: a tennis match with the legends of the ATP. I am delighted that the Istrian Tourist Board is behind this excellent idea, which will result in excellent promotion of the region. Istria is undoubtedly a global tourism brand, which we were able to confirm during two difficult years of the pandemic, as we coped well with the crisis and were a safe destination. But what was certainly missing in these two years were the big events, whether in the world of entertainment, culture or sport, so we are all looking forward to the start of August. I wish the organizers every success in continuing the preparations and I look forward to seeing you on the tennis court! “, said the Prefect of Istria, Boris Miletić.
The Legends Team Cup – ATP Champions Tour will announce the additional players over the next few weeks.
Each tournament day will consist of two singles matches and one doubles match, with the team with the most points at the end of the three days being crowned the winner.
“The city of Pula has wholeheartedly accepted the proposal to host the Legends Team Cup – ATP Champions Tour from August 1 to 3 in the Pula Arena. This unique sporting extravaganza, which will feature ATP world tennis legends, is the welcome for the promotion of our city. From the point of view of the destinations where former world famous tennis players have performed, Pula is a small city, and by organizing the spectacular Legends Team Cup, it will finally be listed on the map of the main tennis destinations. For the first time, the Pula Arena will become a tennis court, which will become the setting for an exceptional sport, but also an attractive tourist event,” said Filip Zoričić, Mayor of Pula.
“Organizing the Legends Team Cup will be further confirmation that Istria and Pula need such big and important events/shows since Pula Coliseum is a unique stage for such important events. Besides the fact that 12 world tennis icons will perform at the tournament, we expect a large number of so-called UHNWIs, most of whom have never visited Istria and Croatia before,” concluded the director of the Istrian Tourist Board, Denis Ivošević.
The founder of the Legends Team Cup – ATP Champions Tour is the Swedish Top 12 group which organizes the tour in cooperation with the tennis organizations ATP and ATP Champions Tour.
