Thomas Ernest McGeorge
February 9, 1941 – August 3, 2021 (80 years old)
Thomas Ernest McGeorge died at the age of 80 on August 3, 2021. He was born on February 9, 1941 in Michigan to Glen and Virginia (Michalski) McGeorge. His father Glen was a career Coast Guard NCO, which allowed Tom to discover his love of the water early on by living near a shore, wherever they went.
Over the course of his life, he graduated from high school in Grand Haven, Michigan, and attended Ferris College. During this time, he became a full time professional ski patroller at Boyne Mountain Resort for the next winters. Thanks to luck and his very good friend, he had a trip of a lifetime sailing through the Mediterranean, North Africa, Egypt, the Middle East, Russia, Croatia, the Italy, Spain and England. Back in Michigan and not wanting to stay out of the water, he and his brother Gram owned at least 4 different Hobie Cat catamarans. In the 1960s, Tom started working for Ryder Trucking Rental and continued for the next 22 years.

With a new life path in mind, Tom moved to Hawaii in 1987 and graduated with a Masters Degree from the US Coast Guard. In 1989, he met Joanne Germon and soon got married. Building a house together, they agreed that the nest should grow larger and in 1994 they adopted their only child, Morgan McGeorge. He attended the Pacific Maritime Academy and obtained a 25-ton captain’s license, sailed numerous inter-island charters on 50-foot sailboats, and commanded several cruise ships in Honolulu. Along the way he was ordained a minister and performed hundreds of civil and military weddings. In 1993, the 208-foot oil spill vessel, the Hawaii Responder, arrived in Honolulu and it became one of nine crew on board. Over the next 15 years, he increased his license to 1,600 ocean tons and would go on to earn the title of Chief Executive Officer of the ship he loved so much.
As life slowed down, Tom did the same and he and his family packed their bags again and moved to Casper, Wyoming. His interest in Western history grew and he joined the Trail Center as a guide. He spent time enjoying Olli’s lessons in college and taught skiing in Hogadon.
Tom was a man of calm presence and peace and enjoyed spending time in familiar moments with his family and friends. She was a truly selfless person who opened her heart to everyone. He always wore his signature smile for everyone to see.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Germon; daughter Morgan McGeorge, granddaughter Lincoln McGeorge of Casper, WY; siblings Kim (Jeanne) McGeorge and their children of South Haven, Mi; Glen (Jan) McGeorge and their children of Portland, OR; Linda McGeorge and her children from Grand Haven, MI; as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Glen and Virginia (Michalski) McGeorge; brother Gram McGeorge; nephew Tom McGeorge; brother and sister Jim and Janice Germon; parents Dr Albert and Dorthy Germon.
The service for Tom will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Casper, Wyoming.
