Niagara Falls light up in Croatian colors to celebrate State Day (VIDEO)

May 30, 2021 – To mark Croatian State Day, America’s Niagara Falls lit up in Croatian colors for the first time in history, twice on the evening of May 29.
The Dalmatinski Portal reports that the beautiful nighttime illumination in red, white and blue lasted from 9:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and from 10:00 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. EST, which on Croatian time falls. on State Day itself, in May. 30 in the early morning.
Niagara Falls was illuminated by several hundred LED lights, which turn on at dusk every night of the year. Throughout the year, the waterfalls are specially illuminated to mark special occasions and festivals and as a sign of support for numerous organizations and associations.
This attractive event, which will bring more attention to Croatia as a favorite tourist destination for Americans, was organized on the initiative of the Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in New York with the support and commitment of the Croatian Tourist Office.
“With this initiative, we wanted to symbolically mark the connection and strategic partnership between the Republic of Croatia and the United States, from culture, sports and science to foreign policy, defense and economy. Croatian emigrants especially deserve to promote ties and cooperation between their homeland and the country in which they have found their new home, ”said Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in New York, Nikica Kopačević.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the United States Pjer Šimunović, Mayor of Niagara Falls Robert Restaino, Military Envoy of the Republic of Croatia to United States Brigadier General Tomislav Galić, the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Los Angeles Renee Pea, the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Chicago Sanja Laković, Pastor of the Croatian Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Bistrica, Lackawan, New York Reverend Christopher Ćorić and d other members of the Croatian community in New York State.
“This special event is important in promoting our country as an attractive tourist destination in the US market. American interest in our destinations is growing year on year, which is confirmed by the two new direct airlines that connect Dubrovnik and New York this season, making us more connected than ever with the United States. We have achieved over 80,000 overnight stays in this market so far this year, and numerous announcements from our partners suggest that the good trends in the US market will continue in the future ”, concluded Kristjan Staničić, Director of CNTB .
