Local travel agents say business is booming now that more families are vaccinated
The main destinations for Austin families are Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, Costa Rica and Hawaii.
AUSTIN, Texas – As more Austin families get vaccinated every day, more families are also booking vacations. Local travel agents say business is booming after a long, quiet year.
Lainey Melnick is a travel agency for Dream Vacations in West Lake Hills in West Austin.
She has clients across the country, but focuses primarily on the Central Texas area. She said April had been her busiest month in over a year, with local families moving to travel around the country, but also interested in international destinations.
“I know there is pent-up demand, but I really wasn’t expecting as much as I’ve seen since April,” Melnick said. “I booked Montenegro, Croatia, as well as South Polynesia. I have a ton of people who want to do overwater bungalows and want to splurge. They’ve been inside for a year and they’re ready to Get Out. “
She said the most popular destinations for Austin residents were Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, Costa Rica and Hawaii.
She said it was important to check the COVID-19 travel requirements for each destination before booking.
