Index.hr Interview with Paul Bradbury before the launch of the Total Croatia tourism portal
May 3, 2021 – The new Total Croatia tourist portal will be launched this morning at 10:30 am (you can watch it live here). CEO of TC Paul Bradbury was interviewed by Index.hr before launch. A translation.
How and why did you decide to launch a new Croatian tourism website?
It was an idea I had a few years ago to produce a smarter, more accessible tourist information site than Total Croatia News. TCN has over 50,000 articles now, so we’re definitely having growing pains. But the pressures related to the management of TCN forced me to suspend the new Total Croatia news site until recently.
The recent HTZ trials were an initial shock, but after that, a reality check. Rather than trying to work with the system and make changes from the inside out, I realized it was really no use. My wife suggested that I complete the Total Croatia site, which was a great idea, for which I will always be grateful. We have updated the original 86 articles with 2021 information. The results have been astounding. Within a week we were on the first page of Google for 31 target keywords for – Bosnia to Croatia (1), Montenegro to Croatia (2), currency in Croatia (2), Split to Dubrovnik (4 ) etc. had an article in French, a guide How to get from Split to Dubrovnik. He was still number 7 on Google France. We refreshed it, and now it’s number 2.
I then realized that without too much effort I could create an excellent, fully commercial Croatian tourism information website in multiple languages. One that would rank much higher than HTZ (not difficult). And if I had strategic partnerships with quality private tourism companies, we could just bypass the system and bring quality tourism back to Croatia. We are launching Monday at a press conference at Lazareti in Dubrovnik at 10:30 am. You are more than welcome to join us. There will be beers after.
What will your new website offer its readers?
It will offer the best and latest tourist and lifestyle information about Croatia, answering questions tourists want to know, in their #CroatiaInYourLanguage language. How to cross the Slovenian border, can use euros in Croatia, can you take pets on the catamaran in Hvar, airport guides and a tour of all national parks.
There are full pages on topics like Croatian wine, food, desserts, olive oil, rakija (actually my favorite article on the page – here is the croatian version), buying a property, flights, renting a car, lifestyle, as well as the most popular item on the site after the daily travel update – an expat’s honest view of living in Croatia after 18 years, the good, the bad and the ugly.
By far the most popular article is our daily trip update, which migrated from TCN. It was one of the cornerstones of the Total Croatia Travel INFO Viber community, which recently won the 2021 International Grand PRix for Crisis Management. The Viber community project has brought in around 10 million euros in tourism spending in Croatia, with an investment of only 2000 kuna and a LOT of hard work from the Mediacor, Manjgura, TCN teams and the exceptional support of the MUP. , but also for hotels and private accommodation owners, who can share these links with their customers (or put them on their accommodation sites), so that they can give good information to their German and Hungarian customers in their own language.
Do you see HTZ as your competitor?
You said that you were open to cooperation with some people who work in tourism. What can they expect from your new website?
The best exposure to tourists before their arrival and during their stay. In several languages. We’ll also be doing a lot of promotion through TCN, our Google News site, which CNN sometimes refers to for travel information because HTZ does such a bad job, and which brought ABC News to Dubrovnik last summer. This resulted in 6 reports on Croatia on ABC News, including Good Morning America, which was watched by 12.5 million people.
But we also want to help the little guy to offer authentic and quality tourism. Let me tell you how I signed the first TC partner 3 weeks ago.
I was in Hvar and got a call asking me to be in Zagreb the next day at 1:00 p.m. to interview Mark Viduka. The catamaran and the 6:35 am bus dragged me to the office at 2:30 pm, so too late.
I posted on Facebook to see if anyone was driving and could take me. Within 2 minutes, a message! I am not going to Zagreb, but I will drive you there, because it means that I will have 4 hours of your time. I have been in tourism in Split and Stari Grad for 10 years, and have followed Total Hvar from the start.
And what a trip it was. I fell in love with Nikola from Nostress boats. I was impressed by his passion, his local knowledge and his approach to customer service. He was a skipper with his own boat and mooring in Stari Grad, and had started on his own after working with a 5 star boutique hotel in Hvar. He was looking to promote his business and thought TCN / TC would be a good place. By the team that we reached Zagreb, we had agreed to an agreement where it will be the only boat transfer option for Stari Grad in one page. In 10 languages.
A VERY interesting feature of what we can offer is the result of an exciting partnership with augmented reality specialists, Equinox XR. The Equinox team have created a virtual tour guide in the form of Dubrovnik’s beloved patron saint, St Blaise, who will be able to design all kinds of virtual entertainment, tours and quests, if Dubrovnik tourism needs it. wish.
What kind of summer season are you expecting this year in Croatia?
Personally I think it would be a really good one, definitely better than what people expect. The pandemic is of course the great unknown. As is the accidental tourism kingdom’s vaccination strategy and message. The British and Americans are vaccinated. Meanwhile in Croatia … Ah, Hrvatska.
I would just like to end by publicly thanking everyone who has been so supportive of this assault on free speech. I can’t remember the last time an issue was 95% supported by an Index poll.
The site is not quite finished, but we feed the google god daily, so You can see it here.
