Hoteliers Expect Advent Festivities to Drive Better Business Results

ZAGREB, December 4, 2021 – Zagreb hotels as well as hotels opened in December elsewhere in Croatia expect Advent season and Christmas and New Year festivities to contribute to hotel occupancy figures , however, the pandemic is likely to reduce customer revenue by 40% compared to 2019.

These figures were presented by the president of the cluster of hoteliers within the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK), Josipa Jutt Ferlan, in her interview that Hina published on Saturday.

Jutt Ferlan says epidemiological developments make it difficult to predict the outcome of this year’s Advent season.

It predicts that in December 2022, hotels could reach the volume of their activity in December 2019.

Jutt Ferlan, who is also the cluster general manager at Hilton Zagreb hotels, told Hina that inquiries about Zagreb Advent events and accommodation bookings point to good results, especially during weekends in December.

Commenting on the COVID certificates, she points out that many business activities and many event organizers rely on the COVID certificate and vaccination to come out of the pandemic and return to normal life.

In many European countries, the COVID certificate mandate has already been introduced also for hotels, restaurants and cafes, she said, adding that there are more and more foreign visitors asking why hotels or spas in Croatia have not yet imposed compulsory certificates.

If all the other countries, our competitors, introduce this requirement, then our name “safe stay” will no longer make sense, if we do not impose certificates too, she explains.

Jutt Furlan added that government job retention grants have allowed hotels to continue doing business and keep their employees during the lockdown.

She says that during the last summer season hotels in Zagreb performed well, explaining that a good summer season along the coast also means a good summer season for Zagreb.
