The World Cup group stage fixtures have been announced with England kicking off their tournament in Qatar against Iran with four games televised a day on the BBC and ITV.

The World Cup group stage will see four matches played a day after the televised fixture schedule was released.

FIFA conducted the group draw last week with England against Iran, the United States and one of Wales, Scotland or Ukraine. The Three Lions will start their dream World Cup with a game against Iran on the opening day of the tournament – which kicks off at 1pm and will be shown on the BBC.

England’s second match is against the United States, who they faced at the World Cup 12 years ago, and will be shown on ITV at 7pm on November 25. They end their group matches with a clash against an opponent yet to be determined. However, it will air on the BBC on November 29 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Gareth Southgate is trying to take England further than the semi-final they reached in Russia when they exceeded expectations in 2018. On that occasion, it was Croatia who knocked out the Three Lions in Russia. But despite the favorable draw, the English coach is not racing.

He said, “It’s intriguing, isn’t it? Because we never played against Iran then the United States… I met Gregg Berhalter [the USA manager] a lot recently, so we had good discussions and he improved them considerably. This is one of those groups where you think some of the ties are potentially trickier than just ranking. It is always a danger.

Spain’s clash with Germany is considered one of the group stage matches and will take place on November 27. Hosts Qatar start their tournament hours after England on the opening night. France, world champions, will launch the defense of their crown on November 22.
