Foreign tourist arrivals in Croatia up 78.6% year-on-year in August
ZAGREB (Croatia), October 8 (SeeNews) – Foreign tourist arrivals in Croatia reached 3.7 million in August, up 78.6% from August last year but below pre-2019 pandemic level, the statistics bureau said on Friday.
The number of nights spent by foreign tourists in Croatia in August increased by 65% over the year to 24 million, the statistical office said in a statement.
Foreign tourist arrivals in August this year amounted to 84.1% of arrivals recorded in August 2019, while overnight stays were 92.5% of the pre-pandemic level, he said. added.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals fell 4% year-on-year to 396,000 in August, but the number of overnight stays by domestic tourists rose 3.0% year-on-year to 2.2 million.
In August 2021, Rovinj was the only city with more than one million tourist nights (1.1 million). Rovinj reported 68.5% more tourist arrivals and 76.2% more tourist nights in August 2021 compared to August 2020.
Compared to the pre-pandemic period of August 2019, Rovinj recorded 2.2% more tourist nights.
In 2020, foreign tourist arrivals to the Adriatic country fell 68% to 5.55 million due to the coronavirus crisis.
Tourism is a key industry for the Croatian economy, contributing a fifth of the country’s GDP.
