Croatia: tourist arrivals and overnight stays increase in 2022
According to detailed monthly data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, it was reported that tourist arrivals and overnight stays in the country continued to increase in the second month of 2022.
Statistics show that in commercial accommodation establishments in February 2022 there were 226,000 tourist arrivals and 570,000 tourist overnight stays, which is 121,000 tourist arrivals and 324,000 tourist overnight stays more than in February 2021, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com .
Meanwhile, in terms of domestic tourists, there were 110,000 arrivals and 236,000 overnight stays recorded in February 2022, which is 26,000 arrivals and 69,000 tourist overnight stays more than in February 2021.
Slovenes account for the majority of tourist arrivals and overnight stays in Croatia in February 2022.
“The largest number of foreign tourist arrivals and nights in February 2022 were made by Slovenian tourists, up to 31,000 arrivals and 74,000 nights, which represents 26.7% of total foreign tourist arrivals and 22.3% of total overnight stays by foreign tourists,” data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics reveal.
In addition, overnight stays by Austrian tourists represent 11.0%, Germany 10.6%, Italy 6.3%, the United States 6.1% and Bosnia and Herzegovina 5.9%.
The highest number of tourist nights was recorded in the Hotels and similar accommodation group in February 2022, with 344,000, which represents 60.3% of the total tourist nights recorded. Compared to February 2021, there were 209,000 more nights.

The results of this survey also show that in February 2022, tourists had 59,000 rooms, apartments and campsites with 140,000 permanent beds.
Tourists had 27,000 rooms and apartments belonging to the Hotels and similar accommodation group, or 44.9% of the total number of rooms and apartments available with 52,000 permanent beds, or 37.0% of the total number of permanent beds available.
Thus, the average occupancy rate of rooms in February 2022 was 28.6% and that of permanent beds 25.2%.
Most nights spent in Istria region
The region of Istria recorded the highest number of tourist overnight stays in February 2022, with around 146,000, or 25.7% of the total number of tourist overnight stays.
Compared to the same period of 2021, this represents an increase of 107,000 tourist overnight stays. Next come the city of Zagreb with 104,000 overnight stays, which accounts for 18.2% of total tourist overnight stays, and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar region with 95,000 tourist overnight stays, which accounts for 16.6% of total tourist overnight stays.
Compared to the first two months of 2021 to the same period of 2022, tourists achieved 398,000 arrivals and 1.1 million overnight stays in commercial accommodation, representing an increase in tourist arrivals of 206,000 and 581,000 tourist overnight stays .
Domestic tourists achieved 209,000 arrivals and 481,000 nights in the first two months of 2022, 54,000 arrivals and 141,000 nights more than the same period a year ago.
While in the first two months of 2022, foreign tourists achieved 189,000 arrivals and 595,000 overnight stays, an increase in tourist arrivals of 152,000 and tourist overnight stays of 440,000.
Most foreign tourist overnight stays were made by Slovenian tourists, ie 17.7%, Germany 11.6%, Austria 10.7%. Italy then ranks at 6.6%, and the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 6.4% each.
