Croatia and San Marino for extended cooperation
ZAGREB, April 30, 2021 – Croatia and San Marino have great potential to expand their cooperation for their mutual benefit, especially in the fields of economy, culture and tourism, Croatian Minister of Business said on Friday. Luca Beccari, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications of San Marino, is currently on a working visit to Croatia. This is the very first visit by a Minister from San Marino to Croatia.
Croatia and San Marino have no outstanding issues and they are working to expand their cooperation for their mutual benefit, said Grlić Radman.
“In this regard, I see development potential for our cooperation in the fields of economy, culture and tourism, given our common Mediterranean orientation and San Marino’s free access to the Union market European “, underlined Grlić Radman.
According to Grlić Radman, both countries are committed to the strategies and objectives of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, to which San Marino joined in 2019.
He recalled that San Marino, together with Andorra and Monaco, is implementing the EU membership agreement and expressed Croatia’s support for the continuation of the negotiations and hopes that they will be concluded successfully.
Grlić Radman did not fail to thank Minister Beccari for the assistance that San Marino had sent to the areas of Sisak-Moslavina county hit by the earthquake.
Beccari said that this bilateral visit was an opportunity to take one more step in strengthening mutual cooperation, especially in the areas of the economy, noting that San Marino deeply appreciates Croatia’s support during its accession to the EU.
This process was launched in 2015 and we hope it will be completed soon, mainly thanks to the support of friendly countries, said Beccari.
Besides the cooperation within the EU market, he highlighted the cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative as a concrete common platform.
In this way, we can have cooperated bilaterally but also with all the other neighboring countries, Beccari said.
He underlined that San Marino was determined to cooperate in the fields of the economy and that it invests a lot in new technologies, in particular those related to sustainable development.
During a joint press conference, Grlić Radman spoke about the long historical ties between the two countries, recalling that, according to legend, the founder of San Marino was San Marino from the island of Rab.
The city of San Marino has had a Twin Cities Agreement with the City of Rab since 1968, and this charter was renewed in 2018.
Minister Beccari will visit Rab during his stay in Croatia.
