Bozinovic discusses digital green certificates for pandemic travel
May 9, 2021 – Home Secretary Davor Bozinovic discussed the controversial new ‘covid passports’ which he says are not passports and should not be qualified as such, despite being in both easier to remember and easier to say. Could Croatia’s digital green certificates be ready next month?
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Bozinovic said: “ These are not passports, let’s not get into the habit of calling them that, maybe it’s easier to say that these are digital green certificates that refer to the facilitation of international travel. They will be interoperable and allow mutual recognition of vaccination, recovery and test certificates.
By majority vote, European Union lawmakers backed the digital green certificate proposal, Bozinovic noted, adding that the final proposal has yet to be adopted and would likely occur within the first half of the year. June.
“Croatia is at an advanced stage of implementing a national technical solution and we are ready to test it on the available European Union platform. Particular emphasis should be placed on the importance of the basics of data, accuracy and entry of all data as certificates issued on the basis of databases of people who have already recovered from illness caused by the novel coronavirus, of those who have been tested in the 48 last hours and people who have been vaccinated.
We support the adoption of these regulations as soon as possible. Without participating in the pilot project, we have become one of the EU Member States that will be ready to issue certificates from June 1. In Croatia, these certificates will be issued in digital PDF format and citizens will be able to apply through the electronic citizens system. Certificates in physical form for those who request them will be issued in some of HZZO’s 150 offices. The verification of these certificates will be done by reading QR codes, and 250 certificate readers have already been deployed at the country’s border posts, ” said Bozinovic.
The entercroatia.mup.hr portal will provide announcements for the arrival of foreign nationals, which will reduce the time spent at Croatian borders. Passengers will be able to upload their digital green certificate receipts in PDF format on the aforementioned page prior to arrival for verification as soon as possible.
