Art Explora announces the artists selected in the “Art Explora – Cité internationale des arts” residency program in Paris – Announcements

Art Explora is developing artist villa programs in France and abroad, the main objective of which is to support creation and strengthen relations between artists, regions and all audiences.

In Paris, Art Explora has established a partnership with the International city of the arts to co-build a biannual residency program for international artists and researchers in Montmartre, a stone’s throw from the Sacré-Coeur.

About twenty residents, all working on projects questioning the link between the arts and science, technology or environmental issues, will be selected each year to participate in two programs:
–A six-month SOLO residency program for artists
–A three-month DUO program designed for a collaboration between a researcher and an artist

For the first edition, 990 applications of 68 countries have been received.

25 residents from all over the world have been selected by an international selection committee to join the two 2021 residency sessions in the SOLO or DUO programs.

philosopher of science, professor at the University of Liège and at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium)
–Christine Macel, Commissioner General of Heritage, Head of the Contemporary Art and Prospective Creation Department at the Center Mnam Pompidou in Paris
– Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries in London
–Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, interdependent curator, editor and art critic, in charge of cultural programming at the Cité internationale des arts
–Philippe Vergne, director of the Serralves Contemporary Art Museum in Porto, Portugal

The Art Explora – Cité internationale des arts residency program also includes regular meetings between artists, professionals from the art world, associations, but also audiences from all walks of life. These meetings are usually followed by a workshop visit and aim to bring together people who barely have the opportunity to meet.

This program will welcome several associations such as:
–Môm’artre, which offers artistic childcare facilities in working-class neighborhoods
–Chemins d’avenir which supports students living far from large urban areas
–The Medici Workshops, the aim of which is to develop encounters between artists and inhabitants through new forms of artistic voices;

* Due to the health crisis, Fatima Rodrigo, Charwei Tsai and Brook Andrew, selected for the 1st residency session must postpone their stay in Paris until 2022. Achraf Touloub and Stéphane Verlet Bottero, initially selected for the 2nd session have joined us in the first session instead.
