Another ace for the season
April 22, 2021 – While this year’s season still leaves the country in limbo, another benefit for successful results can be seen in the development of rural tourism in Croatia.
Many experts and scientists participated earlier this month in an online panel “Quality and sustainability in rural tourism”, reports Klubselo.hr, an official website of Croatian Association for Tourism and Rural Development. This is only part of the Quality and Sustainability of Rural Tourism project supported by the Ministry of Tourism. The project ended on April 15, and it saw signs, education, and a rural tourism management study to aid in the development of the area.
It is established that there is a need to introduce quality standards and a special law on rural tourism.
“The Croatian wine scene has developed strongly. We cannot compete with quantity, but we can with the quality and richness of the types of wines, especially the indigenous varieties that the world is craving more and more, ”said Edi Maletić, professor at the faculty of Zagreb. , for Agronomy Klubselo.hr.
Quality rather than quantity can, of course, be applied to rural tourism in general. This particular area has sparked increased interest in the novel coronavirus pandemic as tourists are now more interested in solitude, peace and authenticity.
Božo Skoko, a public relations and marketing expert and professor at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb, says travel restrictions encourage exploration of rural areas and the consumption of local products.
“The crisis is an opportunity for further tourism development. New standards and rules of behavior have emerged. We have more free time for family, contemplation, leisure, meditation… social responsibility and ecological awareness are emerging, and these factors have an increasingly important role in the choice of destinations, ”Skoko told Klubselo.hr.
Dijana Katica, president of the Croatian Association for Tourism and Rural Development, says there is a lot to learn from Italy, France and Austria which have a long tradition of rural tourism.
“Much attention is paid to quality standards that aim at the diversified offer, specialization of services and to guarantee quality to users which are measured by elaborate standards”, describes Katica of the practice of the three countries mentioned.

Hard work for the preparation of the season already done
Croatia is trying to secure the uncertain 2021 season. While destinations like Vir seem to be quite good, the overall vaccination and test point strategy by the Croatian Tourist Board is seen as a good way to make people safer during the season. of their visit to Croatia. Apart from that, as TCN has already reported, a lot is investing in health tourism, nautical tourism sees the digitization of its system for easier arrival, and local initiatives in Novalja are also committed to expanding its offer from party tourism of Zrće beach.
There is no doubt that the further development of rural tourism can only be a hidden asset for the rescue of the 2021 season. And the still relevant Touch of Baranja photo exhibition in Zagreb is the first step of a specific action .
