In the summer and early fall, American Airlines hoped to receive up to 13 Boeing 787 Dreamliners soon.

This is not the case.

American also did not receive the planes from the manufacturer in time for the return from international travel on November 8.

Now the carrier has been forced to make some adjustments as it looks like Boeing won’t be able to pass for a few months.

According to a note obtained by the Washington DC publication The Hill, American will cut some of its international flights for the summer of 2022 due to delays in the delivery of the Dreamliner.

“Boeing is still unable to deliver the 787s we have on order, including up to 13 planes that were due to be in our fleet by this winter,” Vasu Raja, director of revenue at ‘American Airlines, in the note. “Without these widebody jets, we just won’t be able to fly as much internationally as we anticipated next summer, or as we did in the summer of 2019.”

Some of the destinations Americans are considering cutting include

Edinburgh, Scotland; Shannon, Ireland; and Hong Kong, as well as reduced flights to Shanghai, Beijing and Sydney.

Ironically, the American Northeast Alliance’s new partner, JetBlue Airways, announced this week that it was extending its codeshare agreement with Aer Lingus to provide flights to several cities, including Shannon.

Flights originally scheduled by American in 2019 to Prague and Dubrovnik, Croatia, will not return.

“We will continue to evaluate these routes as more and more planes become available and we would like to be able to serve them again in the future,” Raja wrote.

Boeing is expected to resume deliveries of the aircraft by April 1, 2022.

A Boeing spokesperson issued a statement to The Hill saying, “Our team continues to carry out full inspections and rework, as needed, on undelivered aircraft, while having transparent discussions with the FAA. [Federal Aviation Administration], our suppliers and our customers.
